From the first clumsy days of 24-hour news gathering as Africa Correspondent of Sky News in 1991 - when CNN was the trailblazer yet ridiculed at the time by the old school networks as Chicken Noodle Network - the videos I voiced over were initially on a landline with B-roll from Visnews, later Reuters Television. The desk producer in London would give me a rough idea of what the video would show, and I would have to talk over it. There were lots of ums and aahs, background noise, interruptions and ‘details are sketchy at this hour’ kind-of holding lines. It was amateur time, and I embarrassed myself regularly making it up as I went along. On that score thankfully there is little evidence as Sky News did not archive much then. However, as a piece of broadcast history it could have a useful learning tool. Some below are poor copies of Beta SP or Youtube links of broadcasts.
